The BWCR offers five recreational routes,
suitable for short riders and century riders. **UPDATE
4-27-10** The ride starts at VHDA's Southwest Virginia Housing Center
in Wytheville (map
it) and will finish at Wytheville's McWane Pool.
SAG vehicles are available with tools for minor repairs,
first aid and refreshments.
Rest stops with refreshments and temporary facilities are conveniently located
to give legs and lungs a break.
The ride begins with a scenic route west of
Wytheville towards Rural Retreat and pastoral Black Lick with only a slight
elevation change. At around mile 19, all riders have a choice: turn right
and return to the high school (25-mile route) or turn left and head toward the
40-mile, the half-century, the metric century or the full century routes. Big Walker calls and riders
climb the mountain into beautiful Bland
County. The full century offers approximately 7,900 feet of elevation change with out of this world scenery.
**UPDATE 5-27-10** Routes and elevations with new start/finish.
Cue sheets are provided the day of the ride.
